a daily musing about my family, my life, but mostly about art - how i will try to paint every day - even while my house is falling down around my ears and my five grandchildren are clamoring to paint with me. thank god my husband likes to cook and that he and nellie and ruby, our golden retrievers, have infinite patience. we'll see.....

second piece in this commission...
so this is a start on the second piece of this commission..as you can see..i have the photo in a plastic baggie..don't want to get paint all over it!!..I have a bit of orange as an underpainting..not that much..this is just a beginning..important to start with the darks..the background in the finished piece will be higher than the reference image...so i'll just make stuff up as I go along...it will be important in this to have the background a bit quiet so the main features ( the kids themselves) take center stage...more to come...

on my easel...
20x16
oil on canvas
so we're at the lake..i have a few projects i wanted to get accomplished..a couple of my "grand" project paintings..but i left the house without a few VERY important colors..for blond hair and a certain color of blue eyes..(are you getting this, sally?)...anyway..i'm putting that project on hold and I have this one going..i've had this photo for a long time..in fact, the family these two comes from now has another boy and (finally) a girl...I may have to tweak this a bit and as I look at it now, I see a few things compositionally i may work on..but I love the idea of this...
