On the road...

48x24
Oil on gallery wrap canvas

So here we are in marietta, georgia...sipping a scotch and savoring our safe journey from columbus to here!!!!.. Getting out of dodge was not that easy..as it turns out...last night i was doing one more load of laundry and went to throw it in the dryer..oops..it never started!!  It filled with water all right..then nothing!..so i spent what felt like hours hand wringing towels and sweat pants, etc...did i mention hand wringing???....got em all dried but now....are they clean or dirty?..they spent some time in soapy water but didn't get rinsed...such a quadry...but on to the packing...i always get accused of over packing..there's a very old saying among good buddies.."be heavy...travel heavy..."...dont remember how i ever came up with that one...But i do have issues...it may have something to do with my inability to make a decision...or wanting to have options...weather, maybe..?..i do know davey retore his shoulder trying to get my bag out of the car when we went to bandon dunes...so there's that...ok.. Back to packing the car...we have a bar that goes across the back..window to window..to hang stuff on..we already had our golf gear..davey's stuff..some of my stuff...but then I had a few more things i thought i might need...you have to know what  happened!!!!...yep..broke...my husband is a saint!!!.. He was in the kitchen.. Preparing MY dinner...and had to come out and fashion a jerry rigged duct  tape thingy...which actually worked for a while..til i tried to move some of the stuff so i could see better (I do most of the driving..)...broke again!.. So then we glued it and duct taped it and then wired it...and we almost made it past louisville!!!!...so everything's lying in a heap back there and we don't even care since we are on VACA!!!!!!..so this is another painting I dropped off at addison's bakehouse yesterday...art is on the back burner this week.. All about golf and dogs..we were just thinking this may be the last time they get to make this trip...so we want to make it the best ever!!!.. Add friends to that mix.. Some here.. Some not able to be here...very bittersweet...

Home from Church

12x9
oil on board

I had a wonderful experience Saturday night...my gallery in Bloomington, the Venue, owned by David, Gabe and Michelle Martin Coleman, hosted an event!  the idea was to choose 10 artists and 10 poets..the most creative people they could find (their words) and pair them up.  the artists brought in two paintings apiece..then the poets selected one painting each.  they were then to write a poem inspired by the painting at hand... last Saturday we had five collaborations and next Saturday the remaining five will be read...my poet was the most delightful woman and one of the first poets they contacted.  she said my painting really spoke to her and after hearing her poem I will never look at this painting in the same way again!.. below is Tonia Matthew's poem, "Home from Church":

At first
loneliness:
the single figure,
the sky spilling into the street,
the blue shadow on the roof
a single bell toll,
the street moving from sunlight
into the dense shade
of overhanging trees.

But then
through a break in the fence
along the path,
sunlight slides,
soaks into a clump
of orange flowers,
sets them on fire.

The small woman
dressed in black,
white kerchief over her head
pauses     there,
leans on her cane.
She has come home from church
where she lit a candle,
sat in the cool dimness
alone.
Now, she is on her way home
to that small, silent room

But, see      she has stopped,
warmed by the glow of the orange flowers.
Waiting, perhaps, for them to speak.

here we are at the Venue last Saturday night!!

something about a dog...

12 x 12 oil on gallery wrap canvas
so saturday i visited "the venue"..my gallery in bloomington...  he had sold a few things and i needed to regroup.  i mentioned that i'd done a bulldog painting for joe's school and when he saw it he encouraged me to get going on some other doggie stuff.  that's all i needed! - very energized, i began searching for some fun reference material and i think i came up with some good fodder! this guy is probably a saint bernard..and i may still tweak him a bit but he's the first.  more to follow!!

sleeping babies...

8x10 oil on canvas panel
so i think i'm done with this one.  hopefully it will dry in time to send it off with them - if not, i'll mail it and it should beat them home since they're taking their time getting back to oz.  a real round the world trip...such fun!!  i've been glued all day to the 911 remembrance stuff - it's riveting and i remember exactly that morning like it was yesterday.  i hope we never ever forget!! - off for a walk and then to tillie's birthday party!!
