"Max" NFS

16 x 12 oil on canvas NFS

this is max. he's a black, and i mean black labradoodle! i didn't realize how hard it would be to paint a black dog - there are so many colors in that black fur - i quite like how it turned out. this is a commission...my friend is giving it to her husband for his birthday and she's already come by and approved it so i think i captured him pretty well. so this is my painting for today!

i have a pet commission i'm going to be starting on this week and i thought i'd warm up with this painting of nellie when she was a puppy. she's 7 and 1/2 now - middle aged, actually - but she has absolutely no trouble jumping up into our bed to sleep at night!

"Yellow and Blue"

6 x 6 oil on panel

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

we had a great time with the grands! - we all went out to breakfast this morning...lots of pancakes were had all around! - ..then walked nine holes and back home for a bit of yard work ( i have to fit it in SOMEtime!!...)...so mostly i was digging up these wild strawberries that take over everything..and then i came upon an actual intact robin's egg in the bed...the mom long gone, i'm afraid...so i brought that in and then brought in a bit of the strawberry - and there you have it....

"The Beautiful Pink Flower"....(or four grands and a dogwood)

6 x 6 oil on canvas panel

so i have four of my grandchildren here for the rest of the day and a sleepover. in the midst of this i managed to get this little painting of dogwood blossoms done. (my 7 year old grandson Will named this for me!) i DID learn that these blossoms last no more than a day or two - the branch i had in water from the flowers i stole the other day for today's painting was already wilted so i had to cut this from a tree in my back yard today! the kids are doing sudoku while i finish this and then it's off to SIDEPARK!! YEAH!!!!

"Theft of Spring"

6 x 6 oil on canvas panel

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

so i snuck out today with my trusty scissors and snagged a few samples. the blossoming time is nearly over but i managed to get these beauties. i'm leaving to babysit in zionsville tomorrow so i may not get the others painted before sunday but i'm pretty happy with these. i'm not even sure what kind of trees they're from but they were very fun to paint!...even with ollie needing to paint along side me.....

"Mostly Lilacs" SOLD

6 x 6 oil on canvas panel

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

so here are my lilacs...much better than yesterday's attempt. i stuck a couple white blossoms from one of our trees - it might be a red bud - in with the lilacs. when i was walking nels today, i saw tons of gorgeous blossoms on trees - i'm planning to sneak out tomorrow with my scissors this time and make a haul. they'll probably be gone in a matter of days so there's no time to waste! - i also plan to do some more masters scenery - so much to do..so little time...

bummer....

here's what happened today...i had tillie and ollie much of the day and as i was finally driving home up the driveway i saw these gorgeous lilacs that finally bloomed on my new lilac bush. i was so excited! i cut a few and dashed up to the studio and worked..and worked...but they were somehow wrong from the get-go. not like the peony that literally fell off my brush yesterday. so i wiped it off! - i think any time that happens (and i suppose it inevitably will from time to time) - i'll just post a little "blast from the past"....this is a little guy on the sea island driving range - not sure if i sold this one or not - i'm pretty sure it's 8 x 10 - a lot of fun to do and very representative of the painting fodder on the island. i've had some good digitals made of a few of my daily paintings and i'm thinking of posting them as giclees on ebay.

"Lillian's Peony"

6 x 8 oil on canvas panel
please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

we're back!!!! - what a wonderful trip! - it really felt kind of strange not to be painting every day but golfing every day is a pretty good substitute! the weather could have been better but the company and the fun could not! - but we're home and it's getting to be spring here in indiana so i thought i'd paint a peony. my good friend lillian sent me some pictures from her very own flower garden and she's got some beauts! i imagine i'll do one every now and again - such pretty flowers - i'm trying to grow them in my yard - about the third year now and hoping they'll flourish. last year we had a near tornado come through and totally wipe them out in full bloom. so here's hoping...

"Tillie's Kickers" NFS

6 x 6 oil on board

since i did a painting of lucy's kickers a while back i figured i'd better do one of tillie's. i think the kids' shoes today are so much more fun than the old days - buster browns, and all...heading to the couch for the final round - i have to say i'm rooting for kenny...or maybe steve stricker...i can't believe this week is almost over - it's my favorite golf week of the year! another masters themed painting tomorrow - i've snapped lots of pix from the dvr setup and we'll see if any of them turn out..

"Getting Ready"

6 x 6 oil on board

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

well i learned a lesson yesterday...it was a very frazzled day - starting with the emergency purchase of a washer and dryer - then resolving a few other household emergencies....had some unexpected time with two of my grands..(always a delight!) - but by the end of the day, i realized - after i'd started this painting -that i shouldn't have...some days life will get in the way and i have to let that be OK. so today was better and i finished my first homage to the masters. - this is a painting of a pair of my hubby's golf shoes and a glove that was still somewhat recognizable. it IS the start of the season, after all, and we're not quite there yet...the masters is always the kickoff and it's on right now....hope to do better tomorrow...

"Green Grapes and Daffodil"

6 x 6 oil on board

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

i know it's masters week and i'm psyched but i haven't decided what i'm going to do yet - we went to the practice round several years ago and i have lots of pics - it was back when jack and arnie were still playing and you can take pictures during the practice round - (not the regular rounds) - they were playing together so i got a bunch!! - i may do some golf shoes, or a golf bag -certainly the azaleas... but until i decide, i figured this painting of grapes and a daffodil would help spring hurry along...tomorrow i promise...GOLF...masters golf...

"Opening Day in the Rain" - SOLD

6 x 6 oil on board

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

this painting is my homage to opening day - it's gotten quite blustery here in columbus, indiana and i'm imagining those poor ball players all around the country shivering - some of them in a bit of drizzle....of course it's raining so when i took this outside to shoot it -RAINDROPS!!! - i know they'll dry and the rain will stop -meanwhile good luck cubbies and.....it's masters week!!!!

"First Tulips?"

6 x 6 oil on board

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

i was outside this morning cutting some flowers to bring inside. i noticed 2 brand new tulips - the first ones i've seen in the yard - i brought them in and by the time i got up to my studio mid afternoon, they were all opened up like this...the strangest tulips i've ever seen!...maybe they're not even tulips...perhaps tomorrow i'll get back to baseball in honor of opening day but i had to paint these today! go michigan state!!!

"If it Takes Forever...." SOLD

6 x 6 oil on board

please email sadiedavis7@comcast.net for purchase information

in honor of opening day, i'll probably do a few baseball paintings. this is my husband's oldest cubs hat, for sure...though he has millions of them , it seems. we've been diehards for ever..and you only understand that if you're a cubs fan yourself. our fathers were cubs fans and passed it down. we miss harry - we miss the old days - and we're still mad at that fan from a few years ago who snatched (literally) victory out of the jaws....you know the rest...but there's always THIS year!!! - can't wait - by next week i'll probably be doing some golf related stuff in honor of the masters - my favorite golf event. but i digress.......

"Bowl of Veggies"

6 x 6 oil on board

this is a painting of onions and fingerling potatoes - not very inspired today for some reason - and i think i'm getting too much white on my pallette - as gruppe ( i think) said, once you get the white going it gets into everything. - hard to get good darks - anyway - i'll try again tomorrow - that's the wonderful part about this journey.
