"Tomato Tomato"

6 x 6 oil on board
please email for purchase information

here's the scoop on this....first of all, my granddaughter lucy named it. they've arrived for a vaunted "sleepover" at gan and pap's - their cousins have yet to arrive so we're doing a little art stuff. when i took this outside to take a photo, the wind blew it over and it picked up a slew of bird poop - good lesson - but i was ready to move on - i've started a painting for a good friend and i'll post that when i get done - hopefully tomorrow... lyb (love you bye)

me again - i'm realizing that this is quite a work in progress - every painting i do i find more things to work on - since i've only been at this a few weeks, i'm being gentle with myself - but i WILL get better!

"A Tomato Apart"

6 x 6 - oil on board
please email for purchase information
i bought these at the store today - i'm still working out getting used to this new gessoed board. i did an oil underpainting instead of an acrylic one so the paint was a bit easier to push around but i have other things on my mind - i'm working on my taxes and that always takes time - time away from painting, i went to my granddaughter tillie's big debut as a cheerleader for the 5-6 year old basketball game. quite delightful and hilarious! tomorrow's the big sleepover with 4 of the grands - we're gearing up!

"Stained Glass Trumpet""

6 x 6 oil on gessoed board
so here's one of my mother-in-law's elephants. she had such an extensive collection and we now have several...this one purple glass. but this was another problematic attempt - i tried sanding the board but it's still too slippery. i feel like i'm working on hot pressed watercolor paper and it's eating up so much paint because it won't cover - but i'm a work in progress and so is this diary - so i'll start again tomorrow - this time using an untouched new board. off to take oliver, my 3 year old grandson to tennis.

"Happy Stones"

6 x 6 oil on gessoboard
please email for purchase information
here is my effort for today - and BOY was it an effort! - i love my subject but i mistakenly did an acrylic wash underpainting and the oil paint just would not stick! - i actually had to call the support line and as i was on hold i figured out what what was wrong. the acrylic covered up the surface so no tooth! - santa left these happy stones in our christmas stockings and i love the feel of them! ah well - tomorrow is another day!

"Burns' Poems"

6 X 6 oil on board
please email for purchase information

i have a whole library full of interesting books - many of them from my mother who collected first editions , rare copies or just things that appealed to her. this is a book of burns' poems - unfortunately the copyright page is missing but it's very old and in pretty good condition. the little trinket box was also my mom's. i think i could paint a book a day for the rest of my life and not get through the wondrous subject matter surrounding me in my own home! - i can't wait to get started!!! -

thursday - 19th - late afternoon

i was very excited an hour ago - i think i've got the camera thing worked out but i've discovered i need to use a tripod and a timer so maybe by tomorrow i can get going again - meanwhile - heading to the IU game - they came close the other night - here's hoping....

"Pepper and Glass"....and Nellie

6 X 8 oil on canvas

after working on the anniversary gift, i tried a little reflective piece. until i get a better image this will have to do. i also uploaded a photo of our golden. although she's only 7, nellie's already quite a "whiteface". i wanted to see if the camera would work any better on a plain old photo - doesn't look bad. more later.....

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

i tried to do a painting yesterday but i had an impromptu baby sitting gig for my 3 year old grandson, oliver. we had a great time - he insisted on doing some painting work right along side me, working in colored pencils and tempera. needless to say, the day was an eventual washout but who cares! - i love spending time with my grands! today and possibly tomorrow i need to work on the painting for my hubby so i probably won't post a daily painting til friday or saturday. hopefully, i can post my anniversary gift - still no word from my camera guy.

this is my daily painting...6 x 6 ...oil on canvas panel - the first of the sky paintings i'm going to attempt. i'm sitting out in front of my buddy's home - glomming on to wifi - if i keep having trouble at home, i won't be posting every day - i'll be painting but i'll probably only post every now and then....bear with me...

this is one of the 20 minute paintings - i've touched it up a little bit

this is another sky - i may have already posted this - if so...never mind...

"Be my Valentine?"

6 X 6 Oil on Canvas
please email for purchase information

so here's the other thing i did today...another for valentine's day - i have to put down my brush now and get ready for a party - can't wait for tomorrow - when i get this camera thing worked out i know these will look a lot better. i can't wait to see how much i've progressed in one month, six months, 2 years....what an adventure! - oh, while i was working i got a call from the Left Bank gallery on St Simons...they were about to sell one of my works from the miniature show! that's nice!

"Clementines for my Valentine"

6 X 6 Oil on Canvas
this was my first crack at painting clementines - they're small, sweet little things - sort of a cross between an orange and a tangerine with no seeds. perfect for valentine's day!

"My First Pair"

5 X 7 oil on canvas
please email for purchase information

this is the painting i did thursday - i still don't have the camera figured so it looks much better in person but i wanted to post it anyway. i'm heading up there now - valentine's day - i'm thinking something to honor the occasion...

Friday, February 13, 2009

i'm off to a play a tennis match today - finally added an email box to the site and as soon as i can get my camera fixed i'll be all set. i'm having a hard time shooting the pears i painted yesterday but hopefully by the end of the day i'll have it figured out. again, we'll see....

ok - we've decided on our granite (new countertops for our kitchen - christmas present!) - so i can get back to this - on our way, davey fiddled with the digital camera and i might be better able to display the work. as i say, we'll see.......hopefully i'll be able to post something later this afternoon.

"My First Pear"

6 x 6 oil on canvas
please email for purchase information

here's my offering for today. we drove through rain and high wind to check out some granite samples - of course i got lost and we took way more time than we should have - but at least that's done! then up to my studio - this is the first still life i've done in a long long time - it was lots of fun and i know i'll enjoy trying to do one of these every day!! stay tuned!

" Junior Engineer"

6 X 6 oil on canvas
please email for purchase information

this is my first live painting since i started this journey. he's a little fellow from georgia - very busy - i did this yesterday and since i usually paint en plein aire or from photos of subjects like this little guy, i thought i'd start here. i haven't done still life in a while so i have to get the juices flowing again. we're heading out to look at granite today and i hope to get back to the studio later - it's davey's turn to cook! ...actually he usually cooks but i did a yummy stir fry last night so i'm off the hook! so, until later.....

Monday, February 9, 2009

the second day of the rest of my life! - and i'm exhausted!! - sleep came in fits and starts....thinking about the possibilities...(i know every painter has experienced this at one time or another!) but i am excited and very determined. i'm adding an image of a whimsical painting i donated to our local arts organization fund raiser this fall. i am now heading to my studio to see what transpires....

Sunday, February 8, 2009

me again - during our walk, we decided to expand on the name of this blog - it will be a diary and hopefully will lead to "every day" painting. i'm getting excited!

here's another sweet beach baby - very busy with her bucket - this was sold a few years back but i have digital prints available, both on paper and canvas.
several sizes hand-embellished giclee prints available

this is a painting from georgia - it sold a while back from one of the galleries on st. simons and it's very representative of my painting fodder down there. lots of fun. i've actually sold several digital copies (giclees) of this little guy.

today is the first day of the rest of my life. i will paint more. i will try to paint every day. it's winter-time here in columbus, indiana so it's cold and i can't be outside a lot...except for brisk walks with my husband davey and our golden retriever nellie. but i have loads of painting fodder here in my home...and five grandchildren...and burned-in images of our home away from home, st. simons island, georgia....a painter's paradise. so we'll see..... meanwhile, i'll try and post some of the paintings i've done in the past - many of them now gone to good homes
